Actions

It is proposed to accomplish the objectives of the project with the development of an integrated tool combining the following actions:

Preparatory actions

• A1: Documentation of the current status of air quality in subway systems, identifying main pollution sources, and selection of critical parameters to be tested

Implementation actions

• B1: Determination of the impact of selected parameters, including
  • i) platforms structure/design;
  • ii) mechanical abrasion of rail/wheel, brakes and catenary;
  • iii) night-time maintenance works on air quality in platforms;
  • iv) influence of ground level traffic contamination on platform;
  • v) effect of applying changes in station ventilation protocols
• B2: Testing mitigation measures and Development of mitigation strategies, which reduce air pollution and population´s exposure

Monitoring of the impact of the project actions

• C1: Effectiveness of the project actions compared to the initial situation and the objectives and expected results
• C2: Assessment of the socio-economic impact of the project and health benefits due to the improved air quality

Communication and dissemination actions

• D1: A Project website designed as a tool to raise the profile of the project and improve the dissemination of its activities
• D2: LIFE+ Information boards will be on displayed describing the project at the locations where it is implemented, at strategic places accessible and visible to the public
• D3: Dissemination of project results through the project website, media/press releases, workshops/conferences, production of technical guides, brochures and articles in scientific journals, including a Networking-Open forum with key stakeholders
• D4: Production of Layman’s Report at the end of the project, targeted at the general public and political decision-makers, with the main results of the project

Project management and monitoring of the project progress

• E1: Project Management and Audit with representatives of both partners ensuring submission of financial (audit) and administrative data (reports)
• E2: Monitoring of the project progress according to indicators defined by the managing team to this effect (including workshops and meetings for the beneficiaries´staff required to achieve the objectives)
• E3: Networking with other European projects (including LIFE+) focusing on the improvement of air quality and urban transport
• E4: After-LIFE+ Communication Plan including a road map of the long term application for the proposed mitigation measures and long term links between the stakeholders
